2025 will be special in the series of the InvaCost-InvaPact workshop, as for the first time we will hold two workshops the same year.
The rationale is the following : the Chinese scientific community working in invasion sciences is exceptionnally vibrant and dynamics, and Chinese colleagues are increasingly interested in the InvaPact project. There was a high likelihood of having many Chinese teams applying to InvaPact III, and as we are trying to have a good representation of all countries, I didn’t want to have to decline the application of many Chinese colleagues. I thus suggested to Yibo Zhang, from the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (Beijing, China) to host a second workshop that year, right after the first one, and specifically targetted at the Chinese scientific community, which he fortunately accepted.
This follow-up workshop will be the week of the 23rd of November 2025 and will be on the same format than InvaPact III in Spain: analyse the InvaPact database. However, because the data published in Chinese are numerous and of high quality, we decided to take this opportunity to complete the InvaPact database with a dataset extracted from the Chinese scientific literature. We will, in the end, analyse both dataset conjointly, as the Chinese dataset is destined to be added to the InvaPact data.

Although the two workshops will be separated by two weeks and two continents, we will strive to keep it a single InvaPact project, with a single InvaPact consortium of colleagues from around the world, with as many cross-country collaborations as possible. In particular, we will aim at conjointly distributing the study leadership between participants of the two workshops, and making as many bi-workshop co-authorships as possible. This is one of the reasons why in the registration questionnaire I’m asking for your topic of interest, in order to list all of them and try to put into contact colleagues with shared interests.
If you are a Chinese colleague working on invasion science and intersted in quantitatively analysing the ecological impacts of invasions, please contact the Beijing InvaPact IV workshop organiser Prof Yibo Zhang.
